In this section you will learn how to use the features associated with sending and receiving email. You will also learn how to organize your messages by using folders.
NOTE: Messages that arrive in your inbox can only be read through our service and cannot be viewed in an offline mailer.

| Opening the Inbox |
| |
 |
| 1. | Click Inbox from the left navigation bar. A list of your messages will be displayed. |
| |
| Please Note the Following: |
| |
 | Messages which have been filtered using Automatic Deletion, Automatic Filing or Red List Safety rules, will not appear in your inbox. |
| |
 | The size of the message is displayed in order to help you manage the total size of your account. We recommend that you maintain your mailbox on a continuous basis by deleting large messages, and messages with attachments, once you have read them. |

| Reading a Message |
| |
 |
| 1. | Click Inbox from the left navigation bar. A list of your messages will be displayed. |
| 2. | Locate the message that you want to read and click either the Envelope icon, the message number, or the subject. |
| 3. | To return to the Inbox, click Inbox from the left navigation bar, or click your browser's Back button. |
| |
| NOTE:  The check box that appears to the left of each message is used to move or delete that message. |

| About Folders |
| |
 |
Folders enable you to organize your email messages.
This email application comes with four default folders: Inbox, Draft, SentLog and Wastebasket.
The Inbox folder is the same screen that appears when you click "Inbox" from the left navigation bar.
The Draft folder contains email that you saved (by clicking the Save Button in the Compose window) while composing.
The SentLog folder contains messages that you selected to save after sending (by clicking the SentLog check box in the Compose window).
The Wastebasket folder contains messages that you have deleted.
You can manually move messages between folders or create rules for automatically placing incoming messages in specific folders. (See automatic filing of messages.) |

| Opening a Folder |
| |
 |
| 1. | Click Folders from the left navigation bar. A list of your messages will be displayed. |
| 2. | Locate the folder that you want to open and click the Folder icon to the left of it. |
| 3. | To return to the Folder window, click Folders from the left navigation bar, or click your browser's Back button. |

| Creating/Renaming/Deleting Mail Folders |
| |

| 1. | Click Folders from the left navigation bar. |
| 2. | Click New Folder at the top of the screen. |
| 3. | In the "New Folder Name:" field, type the name of the folder. |
| 4. | Click the Save button to save your changes. |
| |
| 1. | Click Folders from the left navigation bar. |
| 2. | Select the folder that you want to rename by clicking its check box. |
| 3. | Click Rename at the top of the screen. |
| 4. | In the "New Folder Name:" field, type the name of the folder. |
| 5. | Click Save button to save your changes. |
| |
| To delete an existing folder: |
| |
| 1. | Click Folders from the left navigation bar. |
| 2. | Select the folder that you want to delete by clicking its check box. |
| 3. | Click Delete at the top of the screen. |
| |
| TIP: You can rename or delete several folders at a time by clicking their corresponding check box and then clicking Rename or Delete. |
| |
NOTE: You cannot rename or delete any of the predefined folders (Inbox, Draft, SentLog and Wastebasket).
If you have created or designated folders to receive mail from another email account, or defined filtering rules to receive mail in a specific folder, you cannot delete that folder until you change the filtering and "other mail" rules. |

| Moving a Message to Another Folder |
| |
 |
| You can move messages from the Inbox to a user-defined folder (folder that you created), or move messages from one user-defined folder to another. |
| |
| From the Inbox to a user-defined folder: |
| |
| 1. | Click Inbox from the left navigation bar. |
| 2. | Select the message(s) that you want to move by clicking its check box. |
| 3. | Click Move To at the top of the screen. |
| 4. | Click the Folder icon where you want to move the message to. |
| |
| From one user-defined folder to another: |
| |
| 1. | Click Folders from the left navigation bar. |
| 2. | Click the Folder icon where the message is that you want to move. |
| 3. | Select the message(s) that you want to move by clicking its check box. |
| 4. | Click Move To at the top of the screen. |
| 5. | Click the Folder icon where you want to move the message to. |
| |
| NOTE: You cannot move messages into the Inbox, Draft, SentLog or Wastebasket folders. |

| Deleting a Message |
| |
 |
| 1. | Click Inbox from the left navigation bar. |
| 2. | Select the message(s)that you want to delete by clicking the check box to the left of it. |
| 3. | Click Delete at the top of the screen. |
| 4. | Your messages will be removed from the Inbox and placed in the Wastebasket folder. |
| |
NOTE: Messages in the Wastebasket folder are deleted automatically every two days.
TIP: You can delete messages from the Wastebasket folder at any time by opening the Wastebasket folder and following Steps 2 and 3 in the directions above. (See Opening a Folder.)
You can also choose to empty your Wastebasket when you logout. (See Empty Wastebasket on Logout.) |

| Recovering a Deleted Message |
| |
 |
| 1. | Click Folders from the left navigation bar. |
| 2. |
Click the Wastebasket folder icon. |
| 3. | In the Wastebasket folder, select the message(s) that you want to recover by clicking its check box. |
| 4. | Click Move To at the top of the screen and then click the Folder icon (excluding the Inbox, Draft and SentLog) where you want to move the message(s) to. |

| Opening an Attachment |
| |
 |
| 1. | Click Inbox from the left navigation bar. |
| 2. | Select the message that has the attachment by clicking either the Mail icon for that message, the message number or subject. The file attachment will appear in the Attachments field, located in the message header. |
| 3. | Click the attachment name. You can save it to your local disk or open it in your browser (if the browser recognizes the file type). |

| Printing a Message |
| |

On the left navigation bar, click Inbox. |

Open the message you would like to print. |

The e-mail message is opened in a new browser window. |

Print the message using your browser's Print option (usually located in the File menu, or on the toolbar). |

| A nested attachment contains another message as an attachment. When you open an e-mail containing a nested message, two or more mail icon levels appear.
Each level represents the nested message within the level above (that is, within the e-mail). |

| Replying to a Message |
| |

| 1. | Click Inbox from the left navigation bar. |
| 2. | Click the message that you want to reply to. |
| 3. | Click Reply. |
| 4. | The Compose page will open with the sender's email address in the "To:" field. Compose a reply and proceed as you would when composing a message. |

| Replying to All Recipients |
| |

| 1. | Click Inbox from the left navigation bar. |
| 2. | Click the message that you want to reply to. |
| 3. | Click Reply All. |
| 4. | The Compose page will open with the all the addresses of the recipients (including the sender's), in the "To:" field. If anyone was copied on the message, those email addresses will appear in the "Cc:" field. Compose your message as usual. |

| Forwarding a Message |
| |
 |
| 1. | Click Inbox from the left Navigaton bar. |
| 2. | Click the message that you want to forward. |
| 3. | The Compose page will open containing the content of the message. |
| 4. | In the "To:" field, type the recipient's email address. |
| 5. | Click Send. |

| Using the Simple Editor |
| |
 |
| 1. | Click Compose from the left navigation bar. TIP: From the Contacts window, you can compose a message for a specific contact by clicking the Email icon for that contact. |
| 2. | If the Simple Editor window is not displayed, click the Simple Editor tab at the top of the screen.
| 3. | Click in the "To" field and type the recipient's email address. If appropriate, click in the "Cc:" and/or "Bcc:" fields and type the email addresses for those recipients. TIP: You can also enter recipients into these fields by clicking the To:, Cc: and Bcc: field titles and selecting the recipients from your Contacts list. |
| 4. | Click in the "Subject:" field and type a subject for your email. |
| 5. | Click in the large text box and type your message. |
| 6. | To save a draft of your message while composing, click the Save button at the top or bottom of the screen. The saved message will be placed in your Draft folder. |
| 7. | When you have finished composing your message, click the Send button, at the top or bottom of the screen, to send your message. |

| Using the Advanced Editor |
| |

| The Advanced Editor enables you to personalize your message by selecting a header or greeting for your message (e.g. Happy Birthday, Congratulations), or adding a background image ( e.g. stars, hearts, flowers). You can also choose different colors for your text and message background, select a text font and change the font size.
Below are the general steps for composing a message followed by steps for the customizable options. |

| 1. | Click Compose from the left navigation bar. TIP: From the Contacts window, you can compose a message for a specific contact by clicking the Email icon for that contact. |
| 2. | If the Advanced Editor window is not displayed, click the Advanced Editor tab at the top of the screen.
| 3. | Click in the "To" field and type the recipient's email address. If appropriate, click in the "Cc:" and/or "Bcc:" fields and type the email addresses for those recipients. >TIP: You can also enter recipients into these fields by clicking the To:, Cc: and Bcc: field titles and selecting the recipients from your Contacts list. |
| 4. | Click in the "Subject:" field and type a subject for your email. |
| 5. | Click in the large text box and type your message. |
| 6. | To save a draft of your message while composing, click the Save button at the top or bottom of the screen. The saved message will be placed in your Draft folder. |
| 7. | To see what your message will look like before you send it, click the Preview button in the upper left corner of the message text field. A separate window will open. Close this window when you have finished reviewing your message. |
| 8. | When you have finished composing your message, click the Send button, at the top or bottom of the screen, to send your message. |

Headers. Headers enable you to include a greeting banner (e.g. Happy Birthday) at the top of your message. To select a header: - Click the drop-down arrow in the Header field and click one of the header choices. If you do not want to include a header in your message, choose the "Select header" option. |
| |
 |
Background image. You can include a background image in the body of your message (e.g. stars, hearts) which appears behind your text. To select a background image: - Click the drop-down arrow in the Background field and click one of the background choices. If you do not want to include a background image in your message, choose the "Select background" option. |
| |
 |
Background color. To select a background color for your message: - Click one of the color buttons in the top right area of the message text field. To select a different color, click that color. To return to the default (white) background, click the color button that is currently selected. |
| |
 |
Font. The default font is Times New Roman. To select a different font: - Click the drop-down arrow in the Font field and click your font choice.
NOTE:   Each choice has two or three fonts listed (e.g. Verdana, Arial, Helvetica). The message text will be displayed using the first font (Verdana), if that font is loaded on your computer. If you don't have that font, the text will be displayed using the next font on the line (Arial), and so forth. |

Font Size. To select the font size: - Click the drop-down arrow in the Size field and click the appropriate size.
NOTE:   In an HTML-based program, instead of measuring the font size in points it is measured using numbers 1-6, "1" being the smallest and "6" being the largest. The default font size is "2". |

Text Alignment. To select the text alignment: - Click the Left, Center, or Right Text-Align button. By default the text is aligned at the left margin. |
| |

Font color. To select a font color: - Click once on a font color button. To switch colors, click one of the color buttons in the top right area of the message text field. To select a different color, click that color. To return to the default (white) background, click the color button that is currently selected. |

| NOTE:    | The Advanced Editor can only be used when your browser's javascript option is enabled. Additionally, you must use MS Explorer or javascript enabled Netscape Communicator 4.0 or higher. |

| Storing & Retrieving a Draft of a Message |

You can save a copy or draft of your message and send it at a later time. The message is stored in the Draft Folder.
NOTE:  This feature is available when using the Simple, Advanced or Secure Editor. |

| 1. | While in the Compose window, click the Save button. |
| 2. | At a later time, retrieve your message by clicking Folders from the left navigation bar. |
| 3. | Click the Draft folder. |
| 4. | Select the appropriate message by clicking either the email icon, recipient's email address or the subject of the message. The Compose window will automatically open, displaying the message. |

| Attaching a File |
 |
| |
You can attach any type of file, (e.g. a sound file, an image or even a spreadsheet). You can add an attachment to your message at any time while you are composing.
If you are attaching a large file (approximately more than 500KB), it's recommended to use compression software such as Winzip to compress the file(s) before attaching them to your message.
NOTE: This feature is only available when composing a message using the Simple or Advanced Editor. |

| 1. | From the Compose window, click Attach at the top or bottom of the screen. |
| 2. | Next, you need to enter the path or location of the file in the filename field. You can either browse for the file or type its path. To browse, click the Browse button, locate the file and then click the Open button. To enter the path, click in the filename field and type the path. |
| 3. | Click the Attach File button. |
| 4. | The file that you selected is displayed. You may attach another file by repeating steps 2 and 3. |
| 5. | If you selected the wrong file, you can "unattach" the file by clicking the filename and then clicking the Remove button. |
| 6. | When all the appropriate files are displayed, click OK. |
| |
| NOTE:  In order to attach a file, you must have a browser that supports file upload (e.g. Netscape Navigator 2.0 or Internet Explorer 3.02 and later). Internet Explorer 3.02 users must have the File Upload Patch installed on their system before attempting to attach files. |

| Adding a Signature to a Message |

A signature is a fixed block of text that can be included at the end of your messages. In order to add a signature you need to create one first. If you have not, for more information see Create a Signature.
NOTE: This feature is only available when composing a message using the Simple or Advanced Editor. |

| 1. | While in the Compose window, select "Add my signature" by clicking its check box. (A check mark indicates this option is selected.) |
| 2. | This option is selected by default each time you compose a message. |

| Saving a Sent Message |
| |
 |
If you select this option, a copy of the current email message will be added to your SentLog folder, once the message is sent.
NOTE: This feature is not available when using the SMS Editor. |

| 1. | While in the Compose window, select "Add to SentLog" by clicking its check box. (A check mark indicates this option is selected.) |
| 2. | This option applies only to the current message. To have future messages sent to the SentLog folder, click this check box when composing your message. |

| Notifying a Recipient Via Instant Messaging; |
| |
 |
|
You can notify a recipient of your email that a message has arrived
via the recipient's instant messaging service.
|

| 1. | Make sure the instant messaging number of the recipient can
be found in the contact list page relevant to that recipient. |
| 2. | From the Compose window, click the "Notify via ICQ" check box. |

| Using the Spell Checker |
| |
 |
| NOTE: This feature is not available when using the SMS Editor. |
| |
| 1. | While in the Compose window, in the Spell Checker field, click the drop-down arrow to select the appropriate language (if it is not displayed). |
| 2. | Click the Spell Checker field title to begin the spell check. |
| 3. | The Spell Checker screen is displayed. The word that is not recognized will be in the "Word not found in dictionary:" field. You can view the context of the word near the bottom of the screen. |
| 4. | You have three choices, you can change the word, ignore it (accept the current spelling) or cancel the spell check. - To change the spelling, either click in the "Change to:" field and type the appropriate spelling or select one of the words from the "Suggestions:" list. Then click the Change button. - To ignore (keep the current spelling), click the Ignore button. - To cancel the spell check, click the Cancel button. |

| Setting a Message Priority |

 |
This option enables you to make your message "stand-out" by placing a red "!" (exclamation mark) next to it.
NOTE: This feature is only available when using the Advanced Editor. |

| 1. | While in the Compose window, click the High button located under "Priority", in the top right area of the message field. |
| 2. | The next time you compose a message, the priority will return to the default setting, "Normal". Therefore, each time you compose a message, you can select this option for that particular message. |
